In 1989 I watched Greg Lemond win the Tour de France and fell in love with bikes. This year, I finally got to be part of the biggest race in the world.

I went to the Tour as part of VeloNews‘ coverage team, joining the party from Stage 12 to the finish. The experience was overwhelming, simultaneously the biggest thrill of my life and perhaps the hardest 10 days I’ve ever experienced. I learned a lot, and think I came home a better reporter and a better writer, thanks largely to the patience and wisdom of my colleagues and compatriots at the race, Andrew Hood, Matthew Beaudin, Caley Fretz, and Ryan Newill.
